Jacqueline's career path has been interesting and varied. This allows for an all-round perspective of many projects, gained from practical field experience.
Early Training Jacqueline's early ambition was to appear at Covent Garden with the Royal Ballet. She began training in classical ballet at the age of 5 and continued until she was 17, when she embarked on her professional career with Advanced level ballet, tap and modern jazz. She trained in drama, singing and music, and was awarded LAMDA Gold medals for Acting, and Speaking and Reading.
Performance Jacqueline's first paid job was as a chorus dancer in the theatre shows at Butlin's Holiday Camp, Clacton on Sea. She went on to dance in variety shows and pantomimes, with the favourite highlight of playing Daisy the Cow at the Queen's Theatre, Burslem, Stoke on Trent (front half, of course!). She continued to work in theatre as an actor in touring productions that travelled all over the UK. Her performance career spans commercial theatre, TIE, community theatre and radio and TV. In Lancaster she has appeared in several productions with fringe companies, notably playing the lead in Sam Shepherd's "Fool for Love" at The Dukes and Maggie in Freehold Theatre Company's presentation of Brian Friel's acclaimed "Dancing at Lughnasa", which was seen at The Dukes and at various theatres throughout the North West. She appeared as Anne Redfern, one of the Pendle witches, in a promotional video for Lancaster Castle, made by Lancaster University Television for Lancaster City and Lancashire County Councils. Unfortunately, the video's release was short-lived as the Home Office held on to the Castle for use as a high-security gaol.
Stage Management and Technical For several years Jacqueline toured the UK as a stage manager, notably working with David Gordon Productions, now better known as Bill Kenwright, West End producer. She was the resident Deputy Stage Manager at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, before returning briefly to the world of performance and then to 'academia' and Lancaster University. In Lancaster Jacqueline has been Assistant Director and Stage Manager for Joculatores Lancastrienses, a University-based mediaeval theatre organisation. It's most ambitious project was the designing and building of a reconstructed Fifteenth-Century pageant waggon. She worked at The Dukes Theatre as Deputy Stage Manager on several productions, including the annual pantomime. A small 'claim to fame' comes from her time at the Charter Theatre, Preston for Christmas Pantomime "Cinderella", when she worked with Guy Pearce ('Priscilla, Queen of the Desert; and 'LA Confidential').
Academic Jacqueline graduated from Lancaster University with a BA (Hons) in English and Italian Studies. After a one year break from academia (when she resumed her performance activities), she embarked on six years of research into mid-16th Century theatre, leading to M.Phil., working part-time to support her studies. She taught Theatre Administration for two years at Lancaster University's Theatre Department, where she is now an occasional visiting lecturer.
Management Training Jacqueline is constantly seeking to hone and update her many skills and has attended courses ranging from marketing and fundraising (undertaking The Management Centre's 'National Arts Fundraising School'), to coaching and leadership with Manchester Airport and Vertex Training.. She has also undertaken accounting courses at Lancaster and Morecambe College. Most recently Jacqueline was awarded a professional development bursary from the Arts Council England Dance Department. This was awarded as the result of a competitive process, open to dance managers throughout England.
